This vintage wooden hat block, sourced in France, would make a lovely decorative piece. Most likely made of beech, it shows the lovely grain of the wood.
A hat block, also known as a hat form, is a wooden block carved into the shape of a hat by a craftsman known as a block shaper and is used by a hatmaker or milliner to form a hat.
This is an old piece and there is a crack up one side of the block, which adds to its character and it has written in ink “51.50”, which is the circumference of the block and “01,0-“.
