Vintage Storage Chest
Circa 1930’s, this vintage storage chest is likely made from teak wood originally that was iron bound for additional strength, which was later painted an off-white colour.
The inside, which is in great condition, is zinc lined throughout and bears the label stating: “THE MARSHALL IMPROVED AIR & WATER TIGHT CHEST ” along with a patent number and the dates 1917-1933. We believe this was originally used as a military travelling chest.
The lid hinges open, making it ideal for the storage of papers and magazines in a living room, where it could double up as a coffee table, or in a bedroom to store clothes, shoes or accessories.
It has its original metal clasp for closing and two locks (though no key) and a metal handle on each side, so the piece can be easily moved.
This piece bears marks, scuffs and some rust, consistent with its age and use, though the interior is in very good condition.
