Pair of Vintage Tate Sugar Wooden Storage Crates
Circa 1910, this pair of vintage Tate Sugar wooden storage crates would make for characterful log boxes, or simply decorative pieces, where they could store books, or even be used as bedside units.
These pine crates are of handmade wooden construction and nicely aged, with clear branded markings still visible.
Henry Tate and Sons were one of the biggest sugar refiners in London in the late 1800s, and ‘Tate’s Cube Sugar’ was its signature product. These sugar crates are early 20th Century, before they merged with Abram Lyle and Sons to become Tate and Lyle in 1921. It was Henry Tate who established the Tate Gallery in London.
These crates have been well used and have marks and wear consistent with their age and use.
