This antique wooden washing dolly would have been used in Victorian times, when clothes and bedding had to be washed outside by hand.
Doing the laundry was a long and arduous process and the washing dolly was an early implement for making it a little easier. It involved a combination of a downward and rotational movement to move the laundry around in a swirling and twisting motion in a zinc wash tub.
Made of pine, it has a traditional crossways handle at the top, turned support and five legs pegged to the base.
This item would make an interesting decorative piece in a bathroom, or could be used to hold towels, or toilet roll holders in a bathroom.
