Our first photoshoot

Vintage Matters Journey – Our First Photoshoot!

Lots still to be done before the shoot could start though, so the team spent a couple of days sanding, cleaning, washing, oiling and waxing and generally bringing our vintage finds back to life with some much needed TLC.  Lots of builders tea was consumed to keep us going!

It’s really rewarding, putting all the effort into making a dull, often dirty item, look as good as new and discovering a manufacturers name or mark and researching into the provenance or authenticity of a piece.

Pepper the dog wanted to get involved, wherever she could!

We cleared the barn, set up the photo studio and got to work….

…certain people just aren’t camera shy

We are really into the detail on a product and will be making this a feature on our site, whether it be a classic mortice & tenon joint made by a craftsman years ago, or a piece of great hardware, or an amazing piece of typography or backstamp. Take a look at these!

Here’s a little taster of what’s to come on our website….we hope you like our clean, uncluttered look!

We are excited to be getting there, slowly but surely, with lots more still to do. Watch this space for our online launch date, which will be announced soon!

Bye for now.

Maltby Street

Saturday Brunch = Maltby Street, Bermondsey

There is nothing we like to do more on a sunny Saturday morning than to stroll over to Maltby Street Market, have a mooch around Lassco’s architectural reclaim store and then treat ourselves with some delightful taste sensations. And of course, a light refreshment!

http://www.maltby.st/

We had a good look around Lassco’s and like the new changes they have made in the store. Saw these vintage letters and lovely, old circus style Bagatelle board. Funny seeing this old Highbury Stadium Football sign, seeing as Arsenal are playing in the semi final today. Good luck The Gunners!

How amazing are these huge, old doors in one of the railway arches, leading to Bar Tozino, London’s first and only Jamon Bodega?! Definitely worth a stop!

We decided on the hot salt beef, pastrami and cheese sandwich from Monty’s Deli, which was delicious, though a bit mean on the coleslaw!

We can’t pass buy these scotch eggs for a little snack later. Lots of options, but we went for the Black Pudding Scotch Egg! Mmmmm, can’t wait!

To top it all off, a spot of Saturday afternoon gin tasting at Jensen’s.

It’s definitely worth checking out Maltby Street Market on a Saturday morning!

Now, where’s that scotch egg?! Bye for now!

Out and About

We love Sundays, don’t you?

Getting up early and discovering the delights at Columbia Road Flower Market is a favourite of ours. We discovered a few weeks back the amazing black pudding and egg rolls – a perfect start to the day, with a good coffee!

http://www.columbiaroad.info/

This place is buzzing, so get down here early to avoid the crowds!

Apart from the flower sellers, there are over 60 independent stores around, selling kitchenalia, vintage, gifts, jewellery and furniture, as well as many street food vendors, pubs and cafes.

Our favourite is B. Southgate in The Courtyard off Ezra Street, who always has an interesting mix of antique and vintage furniture and accessories. We just want to spend our money there every time!

We picked up a load more box trees for our garden and a couple of olive trees, so we were more than happy, the only issue is getting them home on the bus!

Away from the crowds, we did find a quiet spot and were able to have a great pint of Guinness, to help with that bus journey home.

Just as we were leaving, we came across the lovely Sugar Sisters singing their hearts out in 3 part harmony, looking stylish in matching outfits and matching lippie! Check them out at www.thesugarsisters.co.uk

We love Sundays!

Until next time……

Let the adventure begin

Vintage Matters..…let the adventure begin!!

As we are launching Vintage Matters in late Spring, we need to get moving to find some amazing product for you all!

What is Vintage Matters, I hear you say?! It is a new online store that will bring you an eclectic mix of vintage finds and some new products too, that together will help you curate a unique personality for your home or business.

It’s  5.00 am and we are off to our first market! We have not had the best start – our van got stuck in the mud and we had to be towed out of a field by a tractor!  An experience to say the least! However, with the early morning sunshine beaming down on us, fuelled with a tasty bacon sandwich, we are all set to seek out some great finds!

We were really excited to find some authentic Beer Tables and Benches, like the ones used at the beer festivals in Germany – these are having a serious moment right now! Just imagine how cool Summer entertaining will be with these! One thing missing though….where’s the beer?!!

Vintage Matters (7)

We loved these Victorian glass bottles below – perfect for a stunning display at a wedding! And these vintage suitcases can be used for all sorts – we’ve seen them used as bedside tables and as card collectors at weddings.

Check out our Pinterest page!

We decided to pass on the Boars Heads though, but sure there is a market for them, somewhere out there….?!!

Vintage Matters (6)

It was 4 pm before we knew it, the skies were clouding over and it was time for our final bid of the day.

Those Europeans can be challenging to bargain with…

Vintage Matters (9)

…but not as challenging as loading the van!!

Now the real fun begins – unpacking, storing, cleaning, photographing, cataloging, labeling, etc., but we think we have got some AMAZING first purchases!

This blog is going to tell you all about our Vintage Matters journey.

Stay tuned for the next chapter, coming soon!

Paul.
